Windhoek: Otjozondjupa Governor John ||Khamuseb has urged churches and residents across the region to join the nationwide initiative for peace during the National Day of Prayer on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, ||Khamuseb, in a media statement issued on Thursday, announced that there will be no central gathering in Otjozondjupa for the event. Residents and church denominations are instead encouraged to convene at their local churches, homes, or other appropriate venues to pray between 10h00 and 12h00.

The governor emphasized the importance of seeking divine intervention to combat social issues such as gender-based violence, violence against women, and the tragic killings of children and vulnerable elderly individuals. This initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the President, invites all citizens to seek guidance, healing, and positive change.

Acknowledging the diverse beliefs and practices within the community, ||Khamuseb called on participants to observe prayer services in their chosen locations during the designated time. He stressed the significance of praying for peace, unity, protection, healing, and the eradication of societal ills.

The National Day of Prayer will be observed nationwide under the theme, 'Seeking Divine Intervention for Behavioural Change', accompanied by the slogan, 'God knows, God sees, and God hears.'

||Khamuseb also revealed that 10 religious leaders from the region were selected during a Wednesday meeting to collaborate with his office in organizing and coordinating the prayer sessions at their respective churches.
