Windhoek: The Namibian Revolutionary Transport and Manufacturing Union (NARETU) and Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) have successfully signed a substantive wage agreement that will grant NBL employees a five percent salary increase. This significant development was confirmed by NARETU in a statement issued after the agreement was signed in Windhoek.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the agreement, which will be effective from January 1 to December 31, 2026, introduces several improvements for employees. Alongside the five percent salary increase, the agreement includes an adjusted housing allowance of N.dollars 2,000 per month and salary alignment measures. All financial adjustments are set to be backdated to January 2026, ensuring that employees receive the full benefits of the new terms.
The timing of the agreement, signed just a day before Workers' Day, was highlighted by NARETU as significant, reinforcing the importance of collective bargaining in securing fair and improved working conditions. NBL People Director Vivian Kaposambo expressed her approval of the agreement, noting that the process was characterized by constructive and progressive dialogue.
NARETU Commander-in-Chief Petersen Kambinda emphasized the importance of the agreement, achieved through collaborative discussions and a shared commitment to balancing the welfare of workers with the sustainability of the organization. The union also conveyed its gratitude to NBL management and shop stewards for their dedication and cooperation throughout the negotiation process.
Both parties have expressed their commitment to enhancing their working relationship and ensuring the effective implementation of the agreement for the benefit of all employees involved.
