Nghidinwa accorded an official funeral

Former Mayor of Tsumeb, the late Susan Nghidinwa, who died on 07 October aged 85, has been accorded an Official funeral.

Audrin Mathe, Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, made the announcement in a media statement issued on Thursday.

The late Nghidinwa’s memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at her family home in the Tsumeb district of Oshikoto Region.

Nghidinwa was the first democratically elected mayor of Tsumeb in 1993, a long-time Swapo Women’s Council activist, and a Pan-African Women’s Organisation senior official.

She served five terms in a row as mayor until 1998.

Prior to that, Nghidinwa was the chief control officer at the Oshikoto Regional Council from 1993 to 1997.

From 2000 to 2002, the government assigned her to a senior position as secretary for finance at the Pan-African Women’s Organisation (PAWO) in Luanda.

She later retired from government service and continued to live in Tsumeb and Windhoek respectively.

Nghidinwa is survived by her five daughters.
