Windhoek: The Executive Director of the National Planning Commission (NPC), I-Ben Nashandi, has emphasised the need for stronger engagement with ministries to better assess progress under the sixth National Development Plan (NDP6). Nashandi made these remarks during a government information-sharing session held in Windhoek on Thursday.According to Namibia Press Agency, NDP6 is Namibia's sixth five-year national development framework, aimed at enhancing economic growth, industrialisation, employment creation, and poverty reduction as part of the country's Vision 2030. Nashandi highlighted the importance of regular engagement with ministries to understand the extent of progress made, underscoring the necessity of continuous engagement and monitoring.Nashandi provided an example of setting a growth target for a particular sector in the first year, expecting to see results by the end of that period. However, he noted the challenge in obtaining accurate information from stakeholders, as the data often does not reflect the actual situation. In response to these data challenges, the NPC is developing an online dashboard to track and monitor progress in implementing NDP6 projects. Nashandi explained that once fully developed, this tool will enable effective monitoring of project implementation by uploading all relevant information to the system. With less than five years remaining before the 2030 deadline, Nashandi stressed that NDP6 is an opportunity to meet national targets. He emphasized that improved coordination, monitoring, and data collection are critical to achieving the country's development objectives.
