The body of a 68-year-old man was found hanging in a hut at Satotwa village in the Kavango East Region on Friday.

The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa on Saturday that the Easter weekend started on a sad note as a pensioner, identified as Makuti Johannes Mandandi, is believed to have committed suicide.

Kanyetu said the incident happened at 14h00 and that no suicide note was left.

He said the motive behind the pensioner’s suicide is not known but that his body has been taken to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

His next of kin have been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.

In an unrelated incident, the police are looking for the body of a 13-year-old boy who was attacked by a crocodile on Thursday at Mupapama village.

It is alleged that the boy, who was in grade four at Sambyu Primary School, had gone to the river with his two siblings at around 15h00 to take a bath.

The deceased and his siblings were allegedly taking a bath in the stream and not in the main river.

It is further alleged that he sat on a rock which was in the stream when his young siblings observed the movements of the grass and water and alerted the deceased about what they saw.

The deceased allegedly took the warning lightly and got attacked by the crocodile.

The incident was reported to the police and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism officials, who responded to the incident and conducted a search for the body of the decease, to no avail.

His next of kin have been informed of the incident and police investigations continues.
