Rundu police in search of man in alleged rape incident at Vhungu-Vhungu

The police at Rundu are looking for a man who is alleged to have assaulted and raped a 16-year-old girl at Vhungu-Vhungu village in the Kavango East Region on Saturday.

Namibian Police Force Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu on Monday said the victim was on her way home from a local bar when she was attacked.

“She was attacked by an unknown man who hit her with an unknown object on her forehead. She sustained a serious cut. The suspect then allegedly dragged her into the field and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” he said.

The victim was admitted to the Rundu State Hospital and is in critical condition, while the suspect is yet to be arrested.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
