Youth arrested for alleged rape of pensioner: NamPol

A 19-year-old male suspect was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 67-year-old woman at Oshapapa village in the Oshikoto Region on Friday.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s weekend serious crime report availed on Sunday said the suspect allegedly grabbed and raped the victim while she was on her way home.

‘It is alleged that the suspect came from the front, grabbed the victim and covered her mouth with his hand and threatened to kill her if she screams, after which he removed the victim’s underwear and raped her,’ it reads.

The suspect then took the victim’s phone, valued at N.dollars 300.

Meanwhile, an eight-year-old identified as Jandi Tjirondo was bumped by a vehicle whilst crossing the Outjo- Khorixas road and died on the spot on Friday.

According to the report, the deceased father and another male that were both on the scene attacked the driver with stones causing serious head injuries.

The driver was admitted to the Outjo state hospital in a stable condition.

In an unrelated incident at a house at Okapanda village, a 34-year-old Namibian male identified as Immanuel Amutse was shot in the back by one of the security guards, guarding the house and died on the spot on Friday.

‘It is alleged that the deceased came to the house drunk with a bottle and stones in his hands guarded by two security guards and started to argue with the guards while throwing stones,’ the report reads.

The next of kin of the deceased were informed.

Furthermore, a 16-year-old identified as Michael Swartbooi, succumbed to injuries after a 19-year-old female suspect reportedly stabbed the victim once with a knife on the left side of the chest at Maltahöhe on Sunday.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed of his death and police investigations into all matters continue.
