Windhoek: Zambezi Governor Dorothy Kabula-Simushi has called on residents to embrace a culture of continuous prayer, suggesting that repentance and behavioral change could be effective in reducing substance and alcohol abuse, hatred, revenge, road accidents, and other social issues. Kabula-Simushi made these remarks during the observance of the National Day of Prayer at Kamunu Hall in Katima Mulilo on Saturday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the event was held under the theme, 'Seeking Divine Intervention for Behavioural Change', accompanied by the slogan, 'God knows, God sees, God hears'. The gathering saw participation from priests, bishops, and pastors from various churches who led prayers focusing on issues such as repentance and transformation, gender-based violence and abuse, good governance, a fair justice system, and road safety.

Religious leaders took the opportunity to pray for families, marriages, and children, emphasizing the need to eliminate anger, jealousy, hatred, revenge, and other negative behaviors. Kabula-Simushi highlighted the significance of the National Day of Prayer, noting that it arrives at a crucial time as the country faces social challenges while mourning recent road accident victims.

The governor reminded the residents of the Zambezi Region that they are not alone in their suffering and challenges, as well as in their moments of joy, asserting that God is aware of their circumstances. She urged residents to extend care to their neighbors, particularly the hungry and broken-hearted, advocating for a spread of kindness and the choice of peace over division and love over anger.

Kabula-Simushi emphasized the importance of promoting continuous prayer as a tool for encouraging repentance and addressing various social problems. Katima Mulilo Mayor Kabende Kabende, who also spoke at the event, expressed hope that the gathering would strengthen faith, bring hope and healing to families, promote unity, and inspire residents to become agents of positive change.

Several religious leaders welcomed the involvement of regional leaders in the event and extended prayers for the recovery of Kabbe South Constituency Councillor Raymond Sezuni, who had been hospitalized the previous day.
