Amnesty on outstanding warrants of arrest extended

The Office of the Judiciary Magistracy has extended the amnesty on outstanding warrants of arrest to pay admission of guilt fines for a further period of two months from 01 February to 31 March 2023.

The announcement was made in a circular dated 31 January 2023 issued by the judiciary office.

The extension comes from the period which commenced on 01 November 2022 to 31 January 2023.

According to the circular, during this period of amnesty, an accused with a pending warrant of arrest must appear in court for enquiry on the pending warrant of arrest in terms of Section 55 of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977.

Accused persons who intend to pay admission of guilt fines will be able to do so from Monday, 06 February to Friday, after which summons of notice to appear in court together with the receipt must be brought to the attention of the magistrate for the purpose of inquiry.
