The Otjiwarongo Municipality on Thursday swore in a new local authority councillor to replace Fearika Botha who resigned on 31 May 2022.

The new councillor, Gideon Shavuka Iiyambo, was sworn in to the position by the Otjiwarongo Magistrate, Karel Muyeghu, on Thursday afternoon at the council chambers.

Iiyambo is from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) and is a prominent businessman in the Otjiwarongo district.

He was the IPC’s Otjozondjupa Regional campaign manager in the previous regional and local authority elections.

He will serve as an ordinary council member at the municipality, a position which was held by councillor Sebetius Guiteb.

Guiteb on Thursday was also elected as a member of the management committee of the municipality, where he will serve with Godhardt Hoko, the chairperson, and Hilde Jeseja another member.

Ernst Muraranganda was also elected on Thursday as an additional member to the management committee of the municipality.

The swearing in of Iiyambo was attended by Otjiwarongo Mayor, Gottlieb Shivute, his deputy Julienda Kampungu, Hoko, Muraranganda and Guiteb.

Jeseja did not attended as she is now working at Okatjoruu settlement in the Okakarara Constituency situated about 270 kilometres east of Otjwarongo.

She is however still serving as a local authority councillor of the municipality, said the Chief Executive Officer, Moses Matyayi.

Shivute, Kampungu, Hoko and Jeseja are all from the Swapo Party, while Guiteb is from the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), while Muraranganda is from the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM).
