Brasilia: BRICS countries must oppose double standards in combating terrorism, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security in Brazil.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Wang Yi emphasized that terrorism is a universal threat and highlighted the evolving challenges in the field of counter-terrorism. He pointed out that international terrorist forces are exploiting global chaos, resulting in frequent major terrorist attacks. Additionally, the emergence of new technologies has complicated the international fight against terrorism. Wang called for BRICS countries to unite against all forms of terrorism and reject the politicization and instrumentalization of counter-terrorism efforts, as well as the 'double standards' that currently exist.

Wang also stressed the importance of enhanced coordination and cooperation among BRICS nations. He advocated for the establishment of universal global rules on data security. Wang noted the increasing risks of politicization, militarization, and fragmentation of cyberspace. He warned that large-scale, long-term, and systematic cyberattacks are occurring, which not only hinder global digital development and cooperation but also pose a threat to international peace and security.

The 15th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security took place in Brasilia, following a summit of BRICS foreign ministers earlier in the week.
