COVID-19: Eight per cent of ||Kharas inhabitants tested positive to COVID-19

||Kharas Governor, Aletha Frederick said 8.6 per cent of the region’s population has contracted Coronavirus (COVID-19) since the first case was recorded in March 2020.

Frederick, who revealed this while receiving donation of medical supply from the private sector here on Tuesday, said the region to date has recorded 7 397 confirmed cases, 6 928 recoveries, 184 deaths, while 17 people are hospitalised.

The donation included four oxygen concentrators, worth N.dollars 60 000 donated by Deep Sea Consolidated Investments, 800 LED bulbs worth N.dollars 15 000 from Future Energy and a mobile mortuary donated by NamPort.

The governor said the region has vaccinated 7 638 people with the first dose of either Sinopharm or AstraZeneca.

“We have seen over the past month that there is an increase in the number of people vaccinated, a month ago it was only 5 per cent of the population that was vaccinated and today we stand at 9 per cent. Equally, I urged the inhabitants of the region to get vaccinated,” she urged.

Frederick, while extending a word of appreciation to the three entities called on the inhabitants of the region to continue following the health regulations put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“As we all know, this disease is stretching healthcare resources in many different ways and government alone will not be able to effectively respond to all challenges posed by COVID-19. I warmly welcome the support from the private sector in procuring this essential health equipment, which will go a long way in treating anyone who may fall ill with COVID-19,” she said.

Also speaking, ||Kharas Regional Health Director, Sandra !Owoses, extended a word of appreciation towards businesses and individuals that have supported health workers in the fight against COVID-19, adding that the support has helped workers to deliver quality service to the community.

“We are thankful to everyone, the community that prayed for us and those that supported us in whatever way. The equipment we received has made a difference and helped us to provide better service to our community,” she added.
