COVID-19: Namibia records 241 new cases, one death

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 241 new COVID-19 cases and one death, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 578.

In the daily update issued Monday, Shangula said the new cases formed part of 1 302 results in the last 24-hour reporting cycle and represented an 18.5 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 129 males and 112 females aged between six months and 75 years.

Khomas Region recorded the highest number of cases at 128, followed by Erongo with 30, Otjozondjupa with 25, Omaheke 24, ||Kharas 21, Oshikoto five, Omusati five, Kunene two and Hardap, one case.

Among the confirmed cases were 12 learners, eight health care workers, seven students and two teachers. Eight cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 37 cases are fully vaccinated, while the rest are not vaccinated.

A total of 162 new recoveries were recorded, bringing total recoveries in the country to 126 108.

The number of active cases on Sunday increased to 3 392 of which 72 were hospitalised and three admitted to intensive care units.

Seven of the hospitalised cases are fully vaccinated and one received only one dose of the vaccine. Those in ICU are not vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by Sunday, 387 413 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine of which 93 615 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A total of 214 are children aged 12 to 17 years, while 232 575 adults had received two doses. Therefore, 326 185 people had completed their vaccination, whilst 615 people have received their third Sinopharm jabs.
