COVID-19: Namibia records 354 new cases

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 354 new COVID-19 cases.

The number of deaths remained at 3 578 as no deaths were recorded.

In the daily update issued Tuesday, Shangula said the new cases formed part of 1 641 results and represented a 21.6 per cent positivity ratio, with a sex distribution of 156 males and 198 females aged between 30 and 103 years.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of cases at 233, followed by Erongo with 25 cases, Otjozondjupa with 22, Oshana 16, Omaheke 15, Zambezi 12, Kunene nine, ||Kharas eight, Kavango East four, Oshikoto and Ohangwena with three cases each, and the Omusati and Hardap regions with two cases each.

Among the confirmed cases are 28 learners, 20 students, 18 health care workers and 12 teachers. Twenty of the cases received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 54 cases are fully vaccinated.

Forty new recoveries were recorded, bringing total recoveries in the country to 126 148.

The number of active cases on Monday increased to 4 003 of which 99 were hospitalised and seven admitted to intensive care units.

Eight of the hospitalised cases are fully vaccinated and 91 are not vaccinated, while those in ICU are also not vaccinated.

The minister also reported that by Monday, 388 719 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine of which 94 620 had received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A total of 235 are children aged 12 to 17 years, while 232 912 adults had received two doses. Therefore, 327 532 people had completed their vaccination, whilst 660 people have received their third Sinopharm jabs.
