Driver dies in accident

A 21-year-old man died on Saturday after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and it overturned.

Eight passengers were injured in the incident.

The Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifasius Kanyetu told Nampa on Monday that the deceased, a resident of Shankara village, was driving on the gravel road that links Divundu with Rundu.

The accident took place around 22h00.

Kanyetu said the passengers were transported to a local hospital and are reportedly in a stable condition.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Nyangana Hospital mortuary.

In an unrelated incident, a 48-year-old man was arrested on Friday at Siya village for being in possession of pangolin skin valued at N.dollars 100 000.

According to the police the suspect did not have a permit issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism to possess such a product.

He was expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday and police investigations continue.
