Four people died on the spot and one person sustained minor injuries when the driver of a Toyota double-cab reportedly drove into them along Maria Nakuumba Road at Oshakati Wednesday night.

Deputy Commissioner Hilya Haipumbu of the Namibian Police Force on Thursday told Nampa the driver, who fled the scene, then allegedly committed suicide.

His body was found hanging from a tree.

Haipumbu said the deceased persons, three women and one man,are yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, four passengers in the car survived the accident and were treated at the Oshakati State Hospital.

A case of culpable homicide, fleeing the accident scene and failing to ascertain injuries and damages was opened against the deceased.

Police investigation continues.
