A 10-year-old girl died here on Sunday after she was hit by a car while trying to cross the road with her 17-year-old sister.
The incident happened on the Trans-Caprivi Highway close to the Ndama informal settlement, the crime investigations coordinator for the Kavango East Region Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Monday.
“The two girls were trying to cross the road when a car travelling from the eastern direction to west hit them both. The 10-year-old girl died on the way to the hospital while her older sister is severely injured,” he said.
According to Kanyetu, the driver was arrested on charges of culpable homicide and appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
