A 10-year-old girl died and her 17-year-old sister was severely injured after they were hit by a car while trying to cross the road on Sunday.

The incident happened on the Trans-Caprivi Highway close to the Ndama informal settlement, the Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu told Nampa on Tuesday.

Kanyetu said the girl died on the spot, while her sister was rushed to the Rundu State Hospital where she is receiving treatment.

“The 29-year-old driver was travelling from the eastern to western direction and the two girls were coming from a north to southern direction when they were struck by the vehicle,” Kanyetu said.

Investigations into the incident are being conducted.
