A 43-year-old man died instantly on the B1 road between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja after he allegedly lost control of a pick-up truck he was driving, causing it to veer onto the right lane, where it collided with a truck on Wednesday afternoon.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said in an interview with Nampa on Thursday that the deceased is yet to be identified.

The incident occurred at about 17h00, approximately 80 kilometres from Otjiwarongo to Okahandja, Mbeha added.

‘His pickup was coming from the direction of Otjiwarongo to Okahandja, while the truck headed the opposite,’ said Mbeha.

A 45-year-old female passenger, who was traveling with the deceased, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Okahandja State Hospital in a critical condition.

The 30-year-old truck driver survived the accident unhurt.

Police investigations continue.
