The Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) has announced that the 2021 student funding award list will be released by mid-June.

In a media statement issued on Thursday, the fund called on applicants and the public to be patient while it finalises stakeholder consultations.

The statement follows numerous calls by students and student leaders for the fund to expedite its awarding processes and release the names of beneficiaries in order to allow students to write their examinations.

“NSFAF hereby acknowledges that there is a delay in releasing the student loan award list for 2021. The delay is attributed to ongoing consultations with different stakeholders,” the fund said in the statement, adding that the names will be released soon.

Earlier this week, the Students’ Union of Namibia (SUN), alongside other student leaders from various higher institutions engaged NSFAF as well as the executive director in the Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation regarding the release of the names of the successful candidates for 2021.

Following the meeting, the student body issued a statement calling for the fund to release the award list, saying students fear their futures will be destroyed by the delays.

“As a student body, we made them aware of the fact that students have started with their examinations and some are yet to start. These students are however not permitted to write exams by their respective institutions. Our stance is that NSFAF should immediately release the list of the awarded students, to allow them to sit for their exams,” SUN stated.
