Windhoek: Oshikoto Governor, Penda Ya Ndakolo, has paid tribute to Founding President Sam Nujoma, lauding him as a brave man who fought for independence and brought development to Namibia. Nujoma passed away in Windhoek on Saturday at the age of 95.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ya Ndakolo emphasized the significant contributions of Nujoma, stating, “We must really appreciate his work. He liberated the country and worked tirelessly for this country during and after the liberation struggle. He brought development to Namibia.” The governor highlighted the key infrastructure and services, such as water, electricity, health facilities, and roads, that Namibians now enjoy, which were not available during the liberation struggle.
Ya Ndakolo expressed that words could not fully capture Nujoma’s contributions. “We truly lost a hero for this country, I am aware of his heroism as I was under his leadership during the liberation struggle. He used to guide us during the struggle, saying no one is going to liberate this country if not us,” he recounted, reflecting on Nujoma’s leadership and guidance.
The governor further noted Nujoma’s leadership from 1990 to 2005, emphasizing his hard work and determination, and urged Namibians to continue working towards the founding father’s vision for the country. He extended his condolences to Nujoma’s family, the people of the Oshikoto Region, the entire Namibian nation, and the friends involved in the liberation struggle.
