Windhoek: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources has initiated a weeklong oversight visit to green schemes and conservancies in the Kavango East, Kavango West, and Zambezi regions. This visit, which commenced on Monday, aims to scrutinize the effectiveness, sustainability, and impact of various conservancies, green schemes, and agricultural projects within these areas.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Information and Editorial Subdivision, these initiatives are integral to Namibia's overarching goals of advancing sustainable natural resource management, ensuring food security, conserving the environment, and fostering rural economic development.

The oversight visit is designed to provide parliamentarians with direct insights into the execution of national policies and programs concerning land use, conservation, and agricultural productivity. During the visit, the committee plans to engage with a wide array of stakeholders. These include representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform; the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism; regional governors and councillors; Namibia Wildlife Resorts; traditional authorities; local farmers; and other governmental figures.

The committee's oversight duties encompass areas related to agriculture, water, environment, forestry, and tourism. The statement emphasized the importance of Namibia's natural resources in stimulating socio-economic growth, particularly in rural locales where agriculture, water, and forestry are primary sources of livelihood.

The Zambezi, Kavango West, and Kavango East regions are characterized by rich natural ecosystems, fertile lands, and significant river systems, positioning them as strategic centers for conservation and agricultural development. This is particularly evident through government-backed green schemes, as noted in the statement.
