Rössing Uranium and Erongo RED have sponsored money and kits to the Erongo football and netball teams representing the region in The Namibian Newspaper Cup taking place in Otjiwarongo over the Easter weekend.

The contributions consist of N.dollars 105 526.90 from Rössing Uranium, aimed at catering for the players’ accommodation and training kits for each team as well two kits each for the football and netball players, and N.dollars 20 000 from Erongo RED to use as needed by the teams.

Handing over the sponsorship on Wednesday on behalf of Rössing Uranium, Employee Relations Manager Kondja Kaulinge said the company is committed to making contributions to sports and promoting an active and healthy lifestyle – an effort that is evident through the company’s commitment to hosting the annual national marathon.

“Today is about the youth of our region, who will be flying our flag high in Otjiwarongo at the annual Newspaper Cup and as they embark on this journey to go and compete fearlessly, we are confident that the spirit of sportsmanship will lead the team in competing for the top prize and ultimately bring the cups home,” he said.

Kaulinge further applauded the Erongo Governor’s office for promoting healthy living habits and community wellness and its contribution towards the development of youth in sport in the region.

On behalf of Erongo RED, Corporate Communications Officer Georgina Wohler said the electricity company strives to contribute towards the development of sports in the region especially for young sportsmen and women.

“Erongo has always produced notable sports personalities who have represented the country on international levels, thus I strongly believe that we have new generations of star players who can turn our region and country into a powerful sports hub to be reckoned with,” she noted.

Erongo Governor Neville Andre Itope thanked the corporations for the donation and emphasised the need to strengthen and support sports in the region.

The popular tournament is slated for 07-10 April.
