Windhoek: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has confirmed that four armed robbers entered the Namibia Desert Diamond (Namdia) premises in Windhoek on Saturday. Two of the suspects escaped with an undisclosed number of diamonds, NamPol Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said.

According to Namibia Press Agency, a protection officer employed by Namdia, 57-year-old Francois Eiseb, was allegedly killed by the robbers. Eiseb was found dead in a storeroom, with his hands and legs tied up and his face covered with a shopping bag. His next of kin have been informed.

The suspects reportedly held Namdia staff hostage, threatening them with firearms and tying them up. One suspect, found with gunshot wounds, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Thus far, only one suspect has been apprehended.

Shikwambi said it is unclear at this stage how the suspects gained access to the premises, and investigations are ongoing. Four firearms and knives were recovered from the crime scene. NamPol has opened cases of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

“The investigation is ongoing and will shed more light on their modus operandi. The available information is that there are more than two suspects involved and therefore NamPol is requesting anyone with information to contact Chief Inspector Olivier on 0814210903 or Chief Inspector Simeon Nghilalulwa on 0812560988,” Shikwambi said.
