A 33-year-old male taxi driver was Tuesday afternoon arrested and charged on Wednesday after he allegedly ran over a 14-year-old boy in the DRC informal area.

Namibian Police Force Unit Commander for Community Affairs in the Otjozondupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Thursday said the deceased was identified by his close relatives as Conzares Hanatau.

Mbeha said the incident happened at approximately 17h40 on Tuesday on the gravel road between the DRC informal area and Ombili.

“The suspect was found to be unlicensed, and he explained to us that he was test driving the sedan with a taxi badge number he had just finished to repair since he is a mechanic,” Mbeha said.

The police officer further stated that Hanatau who was with two friends at the time, died on the spot where he was hit.

Preliminary police investigations indicate the three boys intended to cross the gravel road when the incident happened.

Police investigations continue.
