Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, has expressed satisfaction with the housing and land servicing projects taking place at Otjiwarongo.

Uutoni praised the Otjiwarongo Municipality on Friday for having completed the land servicing activities in Extension 12, 13, and Extension 8 in the Orwetoveni residential areas at the town.

He commended the municipality for its plan to invest resources in creating a residential reception area with a capacity to accommodate over 3 500 inhabitants on the periphery of the Ombili area.

Uutoni also revealed on Friday the municipality’s big plan to service Extension 7 for affluent residential purposes.

“With all these activities, I am proud of you, mostly for the land servicing efforts in Extension 13, where 315 plots are earmarked for ultra-low-income earners,” he said.

Extension 13 was serviced by the municipality under a public-private partnership (PPP) at a cost of close to N.dollars 27 million, said Uutoni.

The municipality and its partners intend to construct two-bedroom houses at Extension 13 and sell them directly to clients with approved bank home loans. Extension 13 is situated between the Freedom Park residential area and Ombili informal settlement.

Uutoni on Friday also commissioned completed houses for middle-income earners at Extension 12 and Extension 8.

The two extensions have 332 plots, where two and three bedroom houses are being constructed.

Otjozondjupa Governor, James Uerikua, at the event also called on the Otjiwarongo Municipality to establish a suburb strictly dedicated to members of the police force, military and correctional officers for residential purposes.

“I also want to see you formalising all these informal areas in this important town of the region,” said Uerikua.

Otjiwarongo Mayor, Gottlieb Shivute, on his part promised to continue to lead the municipal council in the provision of affordable houses and residential plots at the town.
