Welwitschias announce 27-men match day squad

The national senior rugby team coach Allister Coetzee on Wednesday announced a 27-men squad that will play against the Valke in the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias’ third match of the 2023 Mzansi Challenge.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, 08 April at 16h00 at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Olympia, Windhoek.

The Mzansi Challenge is a secondary domestic rugby union competition in South Africa organised by the South African Rugby Union and featured all 14 South African provincial unions plus the Namibian side, the Welwitschias, and the Zimbabwe Academy.

Since the start of the 2023 Mzansi Challenge the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias have played Border Bulldogs whom they lost to 21-26 and SWD Eagles who also won that match 22-31.

The Namibian team are using this challenge as a platform to give their local-based players competitive competition ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup which is scheduled to take place in France from 08 September to 28 October 2023.

The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias match day squad members are: Jason Benade, Herschell van Wyk, Lodewikus Jacobs, Pieter Jansen, Gerhard Thirion, Herman Coetzee, Carl-William Freygang, Nelius Theron, Mahepisa Tjeriko, Johan Luttig, Diamando Tjombe, Lebeau du Preez, Thomasau Forbes, Lezardo Vos, Max Katjijeko, Prince !Gaoseb, Jacques Theron, AJ Kearns, Andre van der Berg, Henrique Olivier, Danco Burger, PJ Walters, Hillian Beukes, Lloyd Jacobs, Nico Martens, Aurelio Plato, and Denzo Bruwer.
