Beijing: China's foreign ministry has expressed strong opposition to Canada's recent sanctions against Chinese entities, describing the move as unreasonable and incorrect. During a routine press briefing, spokesperson Lin Jian addressed the issue following Canada's announcement of sanctions on 76 foreign entities and individuals, which includes over 20 Chinese entities, for allegedly providing dual-use items to Russia.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Lin emphasized China's stance against unilateral sanctions that lack a foundation in international law and are not sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council. He reiterated China's commitment to maintaining an objective and impartial approach to the ongoing Ukraine crisis. Lin assured that China is focused on fostering a political resolution to the conflict and has not supplied lethal weapons to any parties involved.
Lin further stated that China has implemented stringent controls over the export of dual-use items, including drones, claiming these measures to be among the strictest globally. He affirmed that China's economic and trade relations with Russia are conducted based on equality and mutual benefit, and thus should not be criticized.
China has called on Canada to reverse its decision promptly, with Lin warning that China will take necessary actions to protect the rights and interests of its companies. The spokesperson stressed that the Chinese government is prepared to defend its national interests and ensure the fair treatment of its business entities in the international arena.
