COVID-19: Namibia records 154 new cases, three deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Monday recorded 154 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 288.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Tuesday, said of the reported deaths one occurred on 05 August and two on 10 and 14 August 2021. One of the deceased had received one vaccine dose.

The minister said the newly confirmed cases represent a 13 per cent positivity ratio. The cases had a gender distribution of 76 female and 78 male patients, with the youngest being five months old and the oldest, 111 years.

Shangula said 36 learners, six teachers, two students and five healthcare workers are among the confirmed cases. Of all the new confirmed cases, 11 have received their first vaccine dose while six have been fully vaccinated.

Ohangwena recorded the highest number of cases at 37 followed by Oshikoto with 33 new cases, Omusati with 18, Oshana 17, Erongo 16, Kunene nine, Omaheke seven, Khomas six, Otjozondjupa six, ||Kharas three and Kavango West with two cases.

Namibia on Monday had 2 917 active cases of which 240 were hospitalised and 49 in intensive care.

In addition, 1 074 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 116 483.

A cumulative number of 187 892 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, while 80 664 had received their second dose.
