NFA Salutes Welwitschias

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) on Tuesday issued a press release to congratulate the national rugby team, the Welwitschias on qualifying for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

NFA president John Muinjo congratulated the Welwitschias for their latest achievement, saying that hard work and dedication were key to the team’s success.

“They (Welwitschias) started badly with the defeat to Kenya but they bounced back to win against Zimbabwe and with all the pressure on them to do well in their final match, against the host Madagascar, they were true professionals and brave sons of the soil who were prepared to realize their dream by sweat or blood as they soldiered on and victory is ours as Namibians,” he said.

NFA secretary general Barry Rukoro said his association took a lot of inspiration from the spirited performance of the national rugby side as they time and again qualified for the global showpiece.

“The consistent performance of our country’s national rugby team is very inspirational and we can all take a leaf out of their book and try to emulate what they always achieve. It was not an easy journey for them, but again they proved that despite meagre resources, dedication and passion can carry you for the game you love and bring joy to your nation. Well done to the Welwitschias.

“Our national women’s football side is hosting the biggest competition on the continent in October and it is our hope for them to carry the same spirit and bring joy to our nation and this goes for all our teams including the Brave Warriors and the national under-15 girls team which will represent Namibia at the Youth Olympics in August this year as well. Well done Welwitschias, we are proud of you,” Rukoro said.

Namibia will now go into a 2015 Rugby World Cup Pool featuring New Zealand, Argentina, Tonga and Georgia.

Namibia’s national Under-15 girls football team will face China PR and Mexico in Group B at the 2014 Youth Summer Olympics Games which starts in China on 14 August.
