AIR NAMIBIA CELEBRATES OF WINDHOEK-LUANDA SERVICE

Air Namibia flights to and from Angola contribute to the economic development of the two countries in terms of employment creation, tourism and trade, says the acting Managing Director of Namibia's national flag carrier, Mandi Samson.

The national airline has been flying the Windhoek-Luanda route for 25 years and Samson told Nampa on the sidelines of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the route here Friday that there was the flights between the capitals of the two neighbouring countries facilitated and continued to facilitate trade between the two countries.

"We have Angolans going to Namibia to buy goods and vice-versa," she said, adding that more than 100,000 passengers used the Namibia-Angola service, which is shared with Angolan airline Taag Angola, every year.

Samson said that despite the current economic challenges in Angola, the airline remained committed to servicing the route. "We are here to serve the community and we do plough back whatever we get out of it," she said.

Air Namibia's Country Manager in Angola, Marisa de Almeida, said Angolans appreciated the airline's services and would continue to support the airline.

Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tarah Shaanika said he had had a wonderful flying experience with the airline for many years.

"We would like to see more flights going to Angola, because we want to increase our business activities, particularly the exchange of business visits between the Namibian people and their Angolan counterparts," he added. --
