Brave Warriors to get interim coach for Chan

The Senior National Football Team, the Brave Warriors will get a new interim coach by Monday next week after designated 2020 African Nations Championship (Chan) coach Collen Benjamin rejected the position.

Chairlady of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA)'s Normalisation Committee (NC) at the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Hilda Basson-Namundjebo confirmed to Nampa on Thursday that Benjamin had turned down the opportunity to lead the team.

(Collen) Benjamin declined the offer. But we are talking to a number of other coaches. By Monday we will know who accepted. It is not a crisis. It will be an interim coach for the Chan matches, Basson-Namundjebo.

When probed as to why Benjamin declined the offer, the NC chairlady said it would be unfair for her to talk on behalf of Benjamin, as she would still want to maintain good relations with the coach.

I respect Collen, I want to maintain that respect. It is fair that he pronounces himself on that issue. It is not a complicated thing. His reasoning makes perfect sense, there is no breakdown of relations, and he is welcome to apply for the position when it gets advertised, she added.

Basson-Namundjebo was also quick to assure the nation that the team will participate in the Chan tournament as there was no danger of withdrawing the team, stating that they always had a plan B when it comes to the coaching structure of the team.

Efforts to get comments from Benjamin proved fruitless as calls to his mobile went unanswered with his only response being promises of calling the reporter back later.
