Health and Social Services Minister Kalumbi Shangula on Saturday announced that Namibia recorded 78 new positive confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Shangula while presenting the COVID-19 daily update said, out of the total 1150 samples tested, 78 new cases were recorded of which 57 are males and 21 females ranging between the ages of two and 85 years.

He said Hardap Region recorded the highest number of new cases with 26 followed by Khomas with 17, Oshana 15, Otjozondjupa eight, Oshikoto five, Erongo 4, and Ohangwena 3 cases.

Namibia now has 1671 active cases of which two are in severely sick conditions, with 12 579 cumulative confirmed cases and 133 COVID-19 related deaths, the minister said.

“Among the 26 cases reported from Hardap Region, 25 are inmates from Hardap Correctional facility, while 13 from the 15 cases recorded in the Oshana region are inmates from Oluno Correctional facility. Among the 5 cases reported from Oshikoto Region, 4 are from Omuthiya police holding cell, Shangula said.

The country, he said however recorded 27 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 10 775.
