GOBABIS: Teams from across the country battled it out in Bidvest Namibia Cup round of 16 matches at the Legare Stadium in Gobabis on Saturday to see who will go through to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
In the first match which kicked off at 13h00, Windhoek’s Tura Magic took on Tropical Heat from the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) in Grootfontein. Tura Magic was too strong for the soldiers and beat them 2-1. In the second match of the day which kicked off at 15h00, Rundu’s United Stars defeated Blue Boys from Swakopmund with three goals to one. The half-time score was 2-1 in favour of Stars.
In the last match of the day between Black Africa (BA) and Blue Birds from Walvis Bay, the coastal team was defeated by five goals to one. Black Africa scored only one goal during the first half, making the half-time score 1-0. During the second half it was Blue Birds’ Filimon Garus-Oab who scored the equaliser for his team. Willy Stephanus ensured another goal for BA, while the Katupose brothers Tara and Muna added another three goals for their team.
BA coach Brian Isaacs told Nampa after the match he told his team they need to increase their level of play during the second half. “I put another striker on the field to make the attacking force stronger, and it worked,” Isaacs said.
BA, United Stars and Tura Magic will now go through to the quarter-finals of the 2014 Bidvest Namibia Cup.
