Four die in Tsumeb-Otavi road accident

Four people including a toddler girl on Saturday died instantly after a seven seater sedan they were travelling in collided head-on with a pickup vehicle.

In a weekend crime report issued to Nampa by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s Chief Inspector, Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday indicates that the road accident had occurred some 30 kilometres south of Tsumeb at about 16h00 on Saturday.

Shikwambi said the seven seater with a total of seven occupants including its 24-year-old driver was travelling from the direction of Tsumeb towards Otavi at the time of accident, while the pickup headed the opposite.

And due to severe impact of the collision, four people - a 24-year-old driver, a toddler girl, an adult woman and a man all died at the accident scene in the seven seater sedan, said Shikwambi.

Shikwambi further noted that other three occupants in the sedan sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Ongwediva Medipark in the Oshana Region in a critical condition on Saturday night.

Shikwambi stated that a 37-year-old driver of the pickup and his two passengers also sustained slight injuries and were admitted in the Tsumeb State Hospital in a stable condition.

The four deceased's next of kin are yet to be informed.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
