President Hage Geingob has called on workers to hold hands with the government in rebuilding the country’s communities and economy amidst the difficult time brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Geingob made the call on Saturday in a message commemorating Workers’ Day availed to Nampa, where he noted that the role and unity of the workers was central to Namibia’s fight for freedom.

He said as such, Workers’ Day celebrated on 01 May every year, is a way to reflect on the journey travelled and the outstanding contributions of workers in the country’s socio-economic development.

“During this difficult period of COVID-19, I call on workers to hold hands with Government as we rebuild our communities and economy. We should also end all forms of violence against women and children,” he said.

The president further added that “with COVID-19 in our midst, I wish to single out the frontline workers who continue to work tirelessly to protect the health of our citizens. As a Government, we stand in unity with our workers”.
