Heroes’ Day commemoration kicks off at Otjiwarongo

Activities marking the commemorations of the 2019 Heroes' Day officially kicked off Monday morning at Otjiwarongo with some military drills and parading of warplanes, paratroopers, military tanks and sophisticated weapons at the Paresis Sports Stadium.

President HageGeingob, Vice-President NangoloMbumba, Prime Minister SaaraKuugongelwa-Amadhila, Speaker of the National Assembly Peter Katjavivi, Chairperson of the National Council, Margaret Mensah-Williams and many more Cabinet Ministers have also arrived to attend the event.

Founding President, Sam Nujoma and Second President HifikepunyePohamba amongst others are also present here at the Paresis Sports Stadium in the Otjozondjupa Region.

Geingob is listed on the programme as the key and main speaker of the event.

The Heroes' Day is an annual commemoration of the first liberation struggle battle that took place at the Omugulugwombashe in the Omusati Region on 26 August 1966, when the South African armed soldiers attacked the People's Liberation Army (PLAN) of Namibia at their base.

Nearly 10 000 people across the country are gathered here to commemorate the Heroes' Day.
