Jarman Wins Namibian Welterweight Title

Anthony Jarman became the new Namibian welterweight champion on Saturday night when he beat Pohamba Mandume on a majority points decision over 10 rounds.

Two judges scored the fight in Jarman’s favour 98-92 and 100-90, while a third scored it a draw at 95-95.

Jarman dominated from the start, using his longer reach to good effect as he raked up the points with a steady jab and combinations.

In the second round he landed a big uppercut and quick combinations, and although Mandume started to force the pace in the third round, he was a bit wild and missed a lot with wild, swinging punches.

Jarman displayed good movement and ring craft to get out of trouble while he landed regular shots at Mandume’s head and body.

Mandume came back gly in the seventh round when the two boxers had the crowd up on its feet and cheering for more as they slugged it out toe-to-toe but Jarman soon took control again with his steady jab and uppercuts.

In the final rounds Mandume pushed the pace, trying to catch Jarman with his big hooks but Jarman displayed good ring craft as he moved out of trouble and continued to land an effective jab.

Jarman comfortably won the fight to take his professional record to nine wins and one defeat, while Mandume’s record now stands at four wins, six defeats and two draws.
