A-31-year-old man died in the early hours of Sunday when the vehicle he was travelling in overturned near Keetmanshoop in the |Kharas region.

The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigation coordinator for ||Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Monday that the accident occurred around 01h00, approximately 55 kilometres outside Keetmanshoop on the Keetmanshoop-Naute Dam gravel road.

“It is alleged that the driver and his passengers were returning to Keetmanshoop from an outing at Naute Dam when the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned,” said Mubebo.

The deceased has been identified as Bernhold Klaudius Vries and his next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the vehicle and seven other passengers who were all travelling in a Nissan NP 200 light pick up at the time of the incident, sustained serious to minor injuries and were all taken to the Keetmanshoop State hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man is expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after he was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at Aussenkehr.

It is suspected that the alleged rape occurred between 22h00 on Friday night and 04h00 on Saturday morning at Block 5 residential area at the grape farm.

“The suspect had sexual intercourse with a minor who cannot give consent to a sexual act,” added Mubebo.

Police investigations in both matters continue.
