Man dies after grain pounding machine falls on him at Taratara village

A adult Namibian male died on the spot on Friday afternoon at Tarata village in the Kavango East Region after a grain bounding machine fell on him.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said in a police crime report issued on Monday to the media.

Taratara village is located in Ndiyona constituency, east of Rundu.

Kanguatjivi said the incident happened at around 15h00 when the deceased, Samuel Sirunda, age unknown was pounding maize meal with a pounding machine, which later fell on him and died on the spot.

His next of kin have been informed and investigations into the incident continue.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man was arrested on Friday for reckless and negligent driving a Government vehicle when he bumped into a pavement of a traffic circle in Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region.

The incident happened around 205.

It is alleged that the suspect drove a GRN Ford Ranger in a reckless and negligent manner and bumped into a pavement of the traffic circle. It is further alleged that the suspect fled the scene afterward and went to park the vehicle in the bushes, said Kanguatjivi.

He expected to appear in the Rundu magistrate court on Monday.
