Namibian President applauded the citizens for the manner they conducted themselves during the November 2019 elections

President Hage Geingob applauded the Namibian citizens for the manner they conducted themselves during the November 2019 elections, by upholding the principles of unity, peace and the rule of law.

Speaking at the New Year greeting to the Diplomatic Corps yesterday in the capital, the president said people should accept the verdict of the court and move on with the process of nation building.

We have always placed trust in our processes, systems and institutions, therefore, when some contestants decided to dispute the election results, as is their right, the courts, which we entrust to adjudicate gave the final verdict and at the end, the people have spoken, said Geingob.

In the last elections, the president's support dropped from the overwhelming 87 per cent he got in 2014 to 56,3 per cent, while the ruling Swapo Party lost its two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.

Further, the president commended all the nations that held free and fair elections in the year 2019, among them Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) members Botswana, Mauritius, Mozambique and South Africa.
