NBAA Summer Base Classic returns after five years due to drought

Namibian Bass Angling Association (NBAA) Summer Base Classic is expected to take place during the month of March after it was on hold for five year due to the ongoing drought.

The Summer Bass Classic has always been one of the biggest angling events hosted on Von Bach Dam in the past, spokesperson of NBAA, Andrew Hill told Nampa upon inquiry on Wensday.

Unfortunately, due to the severe drought and dwindling water levels of the dam, it had to be cancelled the last couple of years. We are however in the very fortunate position that due to the good rains and steady inflow that the dam has received over the last weeks, we are now able to revive the long-awaited Summer Bass Classic, he said

He added that dam levels are currently close to 80 per cent, a magnificent sight not seen for many years.

NBAA has managed to bring some huge sponsors on board with Mercury Marine being the event main sponsor.

King Price has sponsored an N.dollars 50 000 cash price for the biggest fish of the tournament over 3.5 kilograms and there is also an N.dollars10 000 cash price for the biggest fish under 3.5 kilograms, said Hill.

These are only but a few of the amazing prizes up for grabs. We have secured many other sponsors who have also availed some fantastic prizes. There will be an N$ 2000.00 entry fee per team (two anglers + one junior). Boats, Canoes, kick boats and bank anglers are welcome. Each team has a 5 fish bag limit, each fish must measure at least 30 centimetres long, he said.

The event was held last in 2014 and the sport of Bass Angling in Namibia is done with artificial lures only

Bass angling in Namibia can be done on 3 local dams namely the S. Von Bach dam near Okahandja, Oanob Dam near Rehoboth and Friedenhau Dam which is approximately 50km from Windhoek.
