Ndama Combined School receives chairs and desks

The Ndama Combined School in Rundu which has over 2000 learners and close to 114 learners in a classroom received 60 chairs and 60 desks from MJ Tanko Investment company here on Monday.

The chairs and tables were received by the Director of Education in the Kavango East Region FanuelKapapero, school board members as well as by the learners and teachers.

Speaking at the official handing over of the school chairs and desks the managing director of MJ Tanko Investment MechtildeMupiri who is from the region said she thought it is time to plough back to her people.

It is sad to sit inside an office knowing there are over 2000 learners sitting on bricks, bare floors or sacks who do not have a proper chair or desk to work on every day, she said.

Mupiri said her company is going to open up a manufacturing plant in Rundu that will be responsible for manufacturing and assembling school furniture.

The company she stated will manufacture chairs, desks and also collect broken furniture for fixing.

We also want to give the region the opportunity to walk in and purchase furniture instead of ordering them from South Africa, she stressed.

Receiving the furniture Education Director Kapapero said his office was approached by the company on a Saturday saying they want to help the learners.

He said the company told him how they have heard about the lack of chairs and desks in certain schools after which he identified Ndama to be the school in need that would receive the 60 chairs and desks.

We have 171 schools in the region but I said the school that must be assisted now because it is in need is Ndama Combined School, the education Director explained.
