neffWants a State Funeral for Ndatipo

THE newly-formed Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) said Frieda Ndatipo should be afforded a State funeral.

Ndatipo (26) was shot dead on Wednesday last week during a scuffle between the police and the ‘struggle kids’.

Ndatipo was shot near the Swapo head office in Katutura after police opened fire on the ‘struggle kids’ to prevent them from marching to the party offices.

She is survived by three children.

NEFF commissar for transport and social development Werner Januarie said government should afford Ndatipo a State funeral.

Januarie said the government should also compensate her family to the tune of not less than N$650 000 apart from any other civil legal punitive measures against government by her family.

“NEFF proposes that N$250 000 is set aside for the upbringing of her children, and N$400 000 be put in a trust until the children become mature,” he said.

Januarie said this will restore the public’s confidence in government if they handle the case with the seriousness it deserves.

“A presidential enquiry should determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation between the ‘struggle kids’ and the law-enforcers, which resulted in the death of Ndatipo, to avoid future incidents of this nature,” he concluded.

This week government instructed the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate the exact circumstances which led to the tragic death of Ndatipo. The investigation was officially announced by Prime Minister Hage Geingob during a media conference held at his office on Friday afternoon.
