New business initiative formed at Gobabis

GOBABIS: A new initiative aimed at bringing businesspeople in the Omaheke Region together for networking and lesson-sharing dubbed ‘The Platform’, held its first meeting last Thursday.

The Platform is the brainchild of Gobabis entrepreneur, Levi Katire, who came up with the initiative after realising that the exchange of ideas on business practices, strategies and innovation was limited in the region.

The maiden version of The Platform attracted close to 70 businesspeople from across the region. They each gave presentations on their business activities and highlighted unexploited opportunities in their areas of operations.

Most prominent amongst the businesses and organisations that attended the event was Standard Bank Namibia, which sponsored the event and committed itself to be a major partner of the initiative, Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Gobabis Municipality, and the Omaheke Regional Council, amongst others.

A number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which operate within the region were also in attendance.

Katire, who owns and runs the Young Innovations Business Group (YIBG), told Nampa on the sidelines of the event that The Platform will assist greatly in providing vital information to upcoming businesses on relevant matters concerning their areas of operation.

“This idea was born out of the need to have a platform, hence the name The Platform, where businesspeople from the region can come together and tap into each other’s experiences and skills in order to positively drive the economy of our region,” he said.

Katire said many businesses are discouraged from approaching financial institutions and other relevant structures for business advice – an issue which will be tackled by the establishment of The Platform.

He implored large companies who want to disseminate information on their products and services, to come on board.

The Platform will be held every second month, with the next event scheduled for 08 May 2014.
