Omaruru to Host Coca-Cola 10km Run

Coca-Cola Namibia on Tuesday announced a sponsorship worth N$25 000 towards the National 10km Challenge run to take place in Omaruru this Saturday.

The event is an initiative of late Namibian sports consultant, Quinton-Steele Botes who passed away on 23 June 2014.

Speaking during the same event, race director Berthold Karumendu said the race will be a good stepping stone for all upcoming long-distance runners.

“Young people do not have opportunities at youth level to craft their long-distance running skills, and with the 10km run at least young people will learn how to use their speed to run long distances, and when they know they are good enough they can then go for marathons. A marathon is not child’s play, because you need good endurance and speed,” he explained.

Karumendu also informed the media about the Omaruru Beach Volleyball Bonanza to be hosted on 13 September, and the Navachab half-marathon on 20 September 2014 in Karibib.

The Navachab Gold Mine sponsored the event to the tune of N$45 000.

The Coca-Cola 10km Challenge will start and finish at the Luna Park.
