The Outjo Annual Girls Cricket Festival tournament will take place from 06 to 08 May 2021, Cricket Namibia’s Kunene Region development officer, Wilhelm Tuhafeni said.

Tuhafeni in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday said the event is a tournament held to identify girl-players aged between 11 and 16 years.

“The Outjo Annual Girls Cricket Festival is a tournament initiated in 2018 to promote, develop, expose and identify talented girls between the ages of 11 and 16 years from the region and the country at large. The tournament started with only three teams in 2018 and has been growing continuously in the number of participants over the years,” he said.

Tuhafeni added that the cricket festival will once again be hosted in Outjo and attracted six teams which include three under-13 and three under-15 teams competing against each other on a round-robin basis over three days.

The tournament will take place at the Outjo Sports Stadium.

The participating teams this year include Outjo primary school teams, Nara Primary School and the Kamanjab under-13 girls cricket team participating for the first time.

“This is a girls only tournament which aims to provide girls with equal playing opportunities for them to be able to grow their skills and be able to compete at national events. The tournament is sponsored by Indongo Toyota Otjiwarongo who sponsored the prizes for the winning teams in each category and Cricket Namibia who is assisting with transport and accommodation expenses for the outside travelling teams,” said Tuhafeni.
