Readiness for natural disasters needed: Kazapua

City of Windhoek Mayor MueseeKazapua said, although Namibia was not affected by cyclone that affected some of the countries in the Southern Africa region, the country should always stand ready for natural disasters.

Kazapua made these remarks on Thursday in a speech read on his behalf by City of Windhoek CouncillorfransinaKahungu during the City of Windhoek Disaster Risk Management School Quiz in collaboration with the Ministry of education, Arts and Culture.

Kazapua said it is sad to admit that Namibians have adopted an attitude that almighty will take care of them in the event of a natural disaster thus little attention or focus is placed on preparedness or safety in general.

Since we have often seen weather patterns or veld fires veer away from our city or sometimes passing without much impact, we are convinced that were safe from natural disasters but this is a notion that we as the City of Windhoek leadership are seeking to dispel said Kazapua.

He added that by adopting a Train the Trainer, Primary School and Secondary School teachers will be able to impart the knowledge learnt over to their colleagues and to other learners, who will then pass this knowledge on their families and neighbours in their communities.

We must never underestimate the power and intelligence of the school children he noted.
