The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called on the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini to investigate the untimely death of political rights activist, Thulani Maseko, President Huge Geingob has announced.

Geingob, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the SADC Organ Troika, in a statement issued on Wednesday called upon Eswatini’s government to investigate the ‘killing of Maseko’ and that all persons suspected of committing this heinous crime be brought to justice.

“SADC also calls upon the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini to ensure that the killing of Meseko is swiftly, transparently and comprehensively investigated,’ Geingob said.

Maseko was Chairperson of the Multi-Stakeholder Forum, which was established as a coalition of non-state actors to advocate for a process of national political dialogue aimed at resolving security and political challenges confronted by the Kingdom of Eswatini.

”SADC further calls upon the people of the Kingdom of Eswatini to remain calm and exercise due care and consideration while the appropriate structures conduct the investigations,” Geingob added.

In this context, SADC reiterated the need for peaceful resolution of political and security challenges affecting the country.
