Second Rural Women’s Parly slated for February

WINDHOEK: Maternal health and child mortality, gender-based violence, as well as women empowerment will take center stage during the second Rural Women’s Parliament held here next month.

Deputy Secretary at the National Council Juliet Mupurua in an invitation to the event said the rural women’s parliament with their male partners will be held from 04 to 06 February 2014 and hosted by the National Council Women Caucus.

“To ensure equal regional representation, the session will be attended by two females and one male from all 14 Regions of the country,” she said.

The first grass-roots women’s parliament took place in September last year with the aim to give women an opportunity to discuss issues and make a difference in society, especially in rural areas.

The Rural Women’s Parliament was an initiative of the Resolution of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and the National Council’s Women’s Caucus.

The session is aimed at dealing with issues affecting women, especially from the grassroots level of the society.
